The National Referendum For Iran aims to be the central resource for all discussions and debates about the path towards a fair, free, and internationally monitored referendum to determine the future of Iran.
Iran is at a critical stage right now, and it is of paramount importance that Iranians from all walks of life and political persuasions unite to achieve true self-determination for our people. To that end, The National Referendum For Iran hopes to provide a venue which will encourage and enhance the goal of reaching an equitable referendum within Iran.
The developments in the Persian Gulf region, from the War on Terror and the final removal from power of the Ba'athist regime in Iraq by the coalition forces has radically changed the political environment. At the same time, the regime of the Islamic Republic has found itself mired in a social, economic, political, religious and cultural quagmire.
The so-called reformist wing of the political infrastructure of the Islamic Republic has been unable, or more probably, unwilling to enact true reform. Meanwhile, the majority of the Iranian people have voted with their feet in the recent sham local elections. The reformists were dealt a resounding defeat, not because the voters were not interested in reform, but rather because they saw that the rhetoric of the reformists was a mere plethora of empty promises and innuendo.
The call of the people for a radical change is now clearly heard by all those who care to look at the situation in Iran with a critical eye. Furthermore, leaders of the rest of the world are beginning to see that the reformists are no different from the hardliners.
It is now up to us, the Iranian people inside and outside our homeland, to raise the banner of our determination to win back justice and freedom, to rapidly scale back the draconian laws which have terrorised our country, to build a coalition for democracy. By uniting together, we can free our country of the despotism of the theocratic rulers who have vanquished the wealth and opportunity of our homeland and our people.
That is the goal of the National Referendum for Iran.
Liberty, justice, equality, prosperity. Let us regain our dignity.
